Who are the Lions?

To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organisation with approximately 1.4 million members in over 200 countries. It is an umbrella organisation for around 45000 individual clubs, of which Tring Lions Club is one.

The Association was founded in 1917 in Chicago with an objective which encouraged members to put service ahead of profit, to uphold the highest standards of conduct in their business and to improve the community as a whole. Hence the maxim "We Serve". The guiding force and founder was Melvin Jones who became the first acting secretary, the start of an association which only ended with his death in 1961.

The movement crossed to the UK in the early 1950s and quickly developed over the years until today, there are  xxxx members in yyyyclubs, organised into 13 districts.

The Patron of the Lions Clubs of UK and Ireland is HRH The Countess of Wessex.

The Tring Club, with a membership of 18, belongs to District 105A which covers northern Greater London and Home Counties.

We are ordinary men and women who volunteer our time to serve, first and foremost, in the local community, but also by combining our efforts with other clubs, to assist international humanitarian needs. Our fund-raising activities include tombola stalls at local fetes, quiz nights, auctions and can-shakes from which the proceeds go to a number of local good causes ( hospices, support charities, schools, etc). We are also active in the community by providing transport, organising entertainment evenings for senior citizens, partcipating in litter-picks and a range of other activities.

We are always looking for like-minded people to join us.
